Snowshoeing at Mt Rainier : After Thanksgiving dinner at Laura's parents house in Puyallup, we drove south to Mt Rainier the following day (11/25) and stayed at Stone Creek Lodge in one of their wood cabins. We hung out with Stanley the cat (and his less affectionate siblings) and ate blackberry pie at Copper Creek Inn. Saturday morning we rented snowshoes at Longmire (at the National Park Inn), then "qualified" to proceed past the Park Ranger roadblock by having 4wd and "snow" tires :) Once up at Paradise (5400' high) we headed up the mountain to about 6500' and had a great view of the peak. Snowshoeing is fun as well as a good workout...just avoid the really deep powder!

Europe - Switzerland : Switzerland - land of stupendously beautiful scenery and people in the tourism industry out to cheat you. No fewer than 3 separate swindlers in 3 days...excessive :) Highlights: Bernina Express train from Davos to Turin (Italy) and back; seeing the Matterhorn. Lowlights: getting a parking ticket while on vacation in a rental car.

Europe - France : We spent 3 days in Paris, heading to the Eiffel Tower, along the Champs Elysees, to the Arc de Triomphe etc. We did a day trip out to Versailles, then jumped in our rented Citroen C2 (1.1L engine) and headed east to Reims and the Alsace region along the border with Germany (Strasbourg is the biggest city in the area).

Europe - Ireland : Our 3 days in Ireland were spent driving from Cork to Dingle, around the Dingle peninsula, and then north via ferry toward Galway. We stayed in a small town (Doolin) near the cliffs of Moher, then drove east to Dublin where we explored Temple Bar and the 94 other pubs in the city :)

Europe - England : We flew into London to begin our 16-day European adventure. Recovering quickly from jetlag, we toured around the city and saw Big Ben, Westminster Abbey, Hyde Park and Buckingham Palace. We then took the train north to Cambridge to visit Scott and Becky. After exceeding my yearly intake of Toad in the Hole, we went punting on the River Cam (so much fun!), chased some cows in a paddock and took in the sights and sounds of Frosh Week.

Doin' the Puyallup (Fair) : Held every year for 2 weeks in September, Seattlites flock south to "Do the Puyallup". We headed south on Sept 10 for a day of rollercoaster rides, produce judging and staring at animals. Laura even milked a plastic cow! We stuck around for the Pro Rodeo tour event to see the bull riding, saddle bronc riding and barrel racing. Nothing quite like watching the Jack Daniels replay of that incredible ride on the US Smokeless Tobacco Board :) Http://thefair.com

Golf at High Cedars : High Cedars golf course in Puyallup was the venue for this Labor Day '05 outing on the Executive 9 course. 27th B'day - Twisp & Chelan : Brad's 27th birthday was celebrated in fine style by taking Friday off and riding the VFR over Hwy 20 and staying at a B&B (http://www.methowvalleyinn.com). From there Laura and I rode south to Chelan, met up with Adam, Lori, Andy, Ali, Josh, Graham, Kerri, Rick and Kerry at our rented condo. Pinatas were attacked with fireplace tools, hamburgers were turned into hockey pucks, and a makeshift volleyball net was erected with a ladder and a birdfeeder. We followed up that celebration by renting a 20' powerboat and going tubing on Lake Chelan on the Sunday.

Yakima Wineries / Jack Johnson : Aug 13-14 - Josh, Josh (DJ Crotch), Dave, Adam, Lori, Morrow, Graham, Kerri, Laura and I drove out Fri night to Yakima. Karaoke at Sally's Saloon, breakfast at an artisan bakery, and the winery tours (Paradisos del Sol) were the highlight. We continued on to the Gorge to see Jack Johnson perform (GREAT show) and then returned to Seattle at 3am after a failed bid to find the "secret spot" campsite at 1am.

Tigger has a heart attack : Tigger had heart failure on May 8, 2005 and we rushed him to the vet to be treated. Without treatment within an hour, he wouldn't be alive. Fortunately the 24hr animal hospital took great care of him and he survived, but he relapsed a week later and had another episode. We repeated the procedure (at 2am this time) and he again pulled through, but his heart gave out a third time 6 days later and we were forced to have him put to sleep. I'll always remember his constant desire to snuggle up next to you (regardless of how long he'd known you) and his 89dBa purr :) We miss you Tigger...you'll always be loved.
