Riding the Baja : Four crazy guys leave Victoria in mid-February heading for the heat of Baja California. We rode through 1-degree weather on the second day, but it was soon sunny and in the mid-30s. Celsius, that is. In 17 days of riding (21 overall), we covered 8,882km. If I'd just ridden around the block again in La Paz, it would have been a perfect 8,888,8km.

Mom's 90th : It's July, 2008, and, with the matriach of the Stevenson clan turning 90, her five sons gather in Roxburgh from all around the world (well, almost). Twenty-four family members turn up, with four generations represented. There are speeches (mercifully short) and bubbly and a good time is had by all, as they say.

Out on the salt : Brother Alistair flies over from far-off New Zealand in August, 2007, and he and Geoff head for the Bonneville Salt Flats, via Seattle. At Bonneville, they meet Geoff's friend Terry Sowden and his brother Harvey, who lives and works near Salt Lake City. Geoff and Alistair cover 5,537.7km, according to the Suzuki V-Strom Geoff rides; all four bikes involved (all Japanese!) run perfectly.

Rugby in Scotland : The 2007 Rugby World Cup is being played in France, Scotland and Wales and Geoff and his old friend, Gary Park, head for Scotland to see the All Blacks tackle Scotland at Murrayfield. The men in silver (they have changed their black jerseys on this special day) win 40-0, but don't play very well.

Desolation Sound : Geoff and Anita sail as far north as Frederick Arm in Desolation Sound in July, 2007 - and then as far south as Bellingham. They have plenty of sunny days, but a serious absence of wind, which makes for a lot of motoring

Mount Baker ride, July/06 : After admiring 10,778-foot Mount Baker from a variety of vantage points over the past 14 years, Geoff rides up Highway 542 until he comes to a locked gate. He's en route to Seattle, to watch the All Blacks beat the Springboks in a TriNations rugby game. It's a beautiful day and the scenery is wonderful.

A cafe racer joins the stable : It's spring 2006 and one of Geoff's friends leads him to an aircraft mechanic in Vancouver with something a little different: A 1974 Honda CB550K, modified as a cafe racer. A deal is struck, money changes hands and Geoff loads this great little bike into his trusty Chevy and drives home with a new addition to his stable.

Four Corners, June 2006 : Geoff, Chris Jones, Jack Kasenberg and Gil Johnson left Victoria June 1 and rode about 7,300km (4,500 miles for you non-metric Americans) in two weeks. They thundered down the Interstates to Southern Utah, then marvelled at Zion, Red Rock and Bryce Canyons before riding southeast to the Four Corners (junction of Colorado, Utah, New Mexico and Arizona). Then they rode the length of Colorado and Wyoming, before heading west and northwest to get home.

Alaska 2009 : It's late May, 2009, and Geoff rides north on his trusty Suzuki 650 V-Strom. He heads for Prince Rupert, BC, hops an Alaskan ferry to Skagway, then takes another ferry back to Haines, AK., and rides to Anchorage, where Brad flies in from Seattle to rent a second V-Strom. Pere et fils have a great week together, clocking up 3,070km, and getting as far north as the Arctic Circle, and as far south as Valdez. By the time Geoff gets home, he's ridden 10,726km.
